Improvement of Vital Statistics Registration through Utilization of National Health Insurance System in Korea

Abstract

|
This study was conducted to develop an idea to improve vital statistics registration through utilization of health insurance system in Korea. As Korea introduced a health insurance system to cover the whole Korean population residing in its
territory,
membership screening for the insurance enrollment is being done strictly. Therefore, the system can recognize births and deaths accurately. This may motivate to participate for the health insurance system in collecting all the vital data.
Hospital should report births and deaths to its family's residence area, while the health surance system compiles birth-and-death data file to send it to National Statistical Office (NSO). With the datafile, the NSO may keep a roster for all the
births
and deaths even before their registrations are done. Also, all convenience and benefits should provide for complete registration. They include simultaneous registration for burial permit, maternal benefits and funeral subsidy. family register,
health
insurance reportings, and other necessary registration.
